I have never regretted having anyone associated with auto racing on our show; but there are certain people in NASCAR that I just can't wait to talk to. Kenny Wallace is one elusive dude, but I thought I had him set up for last nights show until the stupid COT testing at Richmond got in the way. Oh well--I'll keep working his PR people down until they succumb. He would have been only part of a great "daily double".
The other driver I couldn't wait to talk to was Marcos Ambrose and last night was the night. I knew going in Marcos had a great sense of humor and would be fun to talk with. He didn't disappoint. The "Australian Turtle" gave us his views on his rapid rise from two-time Australian V8 Supercar champ to www.drive.com.au
2006 CTS rookie to his current 7th in points in the Busch Series.
Marcos shared his thoughts on a variety of topics including his projected attempts to run the two Cup road races this year at Infineon Raceway and Watkins Glen; and how he has adapted so quickly to running ovals. Until he showed up at Martinsville last year, he had never run on an oval. I'd say you're a pretty quick study mate.

As an American expat living in the Philippines for the last 6 years I have had access to the V8 Supercar Series via a local Aussie cable feed.
There are several drivers in the series I believe could make a splash in NASCAR.
One thing of note, at home Ambrose seems to illicit some of the similar fan reactions as say Robby Gordon or Jeffy in the States.
Both his fans and his detractors are VERY vocal to the point of propagating conspiracy theories as to why he wins or not.
As a side note: If you think NASCAR invented a new mouse trap with the splitters and wings on the CoT the Aussie V8's have runwith them for years.
As a "side" side note: I don't see the Ambrose interview at the provided url. I'm AM old so maybe it's my eye sight that is the problem.

During those dark day before we had NASCAR 24/7 and the Speed Channel, V8 Supercars were about the only racing we could get HERE in the winters. Very competitive and exciting stuff. The info on how he was/is looked upon down under is interesting as well. If you are looking for our interview of Marcos, I will try to either get a transcript up (not likely) or, hopefully our new podcast will be ready soon. In either event, thanks for the interest.

Marc—
Your view on Marcos’ Aussie fame and status is quite interesting. Funny thing is—I am not a Jeffy fan at all, but Robby—I respect for what he is trying to do and the diversity he shows running in vastly different series.
I suppose it goes back to the fact, right or wrong that Jeffy achieved fame quickly without much work and Robby has had to fight for what he has gotten. Again, those are perceptions--right or wrong.
I think the link I put on the blog was to Marcos’ website. We are working on putting together a weekly podcast that will be kind of a highlight show from our regular on-air show.
