This is going to be a busy weekend for me and the other ON PIT ROW, Pit Crew members. Michigan International Speedway is our home track, of sorts, and MIS weekends are always pretty well packed with interview opportunities for the show and photo opps and other NASCAR action for the show and blogs.
I got lucky. I'm kicking the weekend off with Dale. That's Dale as in Dale the movie - the traveling documentary of the legend, Dale Earnhardt. I always respected Earnhardt as a driver and personality. I wasn't a huge fan, particularly - certainly not like several friends of mine were and continue to be. I'm going to the movie with one of those fans.
Ron was devastated when Earnhardt died in that crash at Daytona. Many of you were. As a tribute to his hero, Ron took a beautiful 1957 Chevy that he had been restoring and with the cooperation of Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR, secured the authentic decal set from Earnhardts #3 and installed them on his '57.
We're driving the car to the movie tonight. The car always gets attention, but with the Earnhardt-centric crowd sure to be there for this limited showing, it ought to be something special.
My friend Bob - the well known 4ever3 to ya'll - asked me to hold up three fingers for him at the end of the movie. Glad to, Bob. I'll be in good company.
