It looked for much of the night like Kasey Kahne would pull off the double win at Bristol.
Carl Edwards used a pick from Micheal Waltrip to pass Kahne with 166 laps to go in the race to post his second win of the 2007 season. Edwards picked up 10 more bonus points to begin the Chase for the Championship in three weeks. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was only able to gain five points in his quest to make the Chase.
Bristols new concrete coupled with the new banking configuration led to much side by side racing. More so than ever there were three distinct grooves for the cars to utilize.
The Buzz ON PIT ROW is:
Did the resurfacing of Bristol ruin or enhance the racing?
The Fast Lap this week asks:
1) Will a Mark Martin/Aric Almirola tag team effort keep the fans from booing the #8 next year?
2) Jacques Villeneuve will most likely join Juan Pablo as non-US born drivers in Cup cars in 2008. Is this what NASCAR had in mind with its diversity program?
3) Should NASCAR come up with an appeals process during a race to keep from making mistakes like happened to Rowdy in the Busch race?
4) Will there be any changes to the top 12 with 2 races to go or are we set?
Let us know how you feel; about these questions, or anything else that happened during the short week at Thunder Valley. If we like your comments, whether we agree or not, we could use them on the air during Tuesday's ON PIT ROW. Sorry I didn't get to meet up with you guys on Fri at MIS. We didn't get to the track until 10:00 pm and I figured you had already vacated the area to get rest for Sat's big tractor pull.
Anyway, here is my 2 cents.
Buzz: Yes and no. Busch race yes, Cup race no, but I think it was more than the track surface that made the Cup race not as exciting as the Busch race.
1) Yes and No - yes to the fan who does not throw beer cans at race cars, and no to those who do.
2) Yes and No - Yes because it is a non-US citizen who speaks French as a first language and no because 'Jack' isn't female or a visable minority (or both). PS- does he qualify for that program anyway?
3) Yes and No - Yes because it is unfair to who ever it effects and No because you can't call a "time-out" in the middle of the race for the NASCAR official to have a conference and go over tape of the incident.
4) Yes and No - yes there will be changes within the 12 already there, and no because it will still be the same 12 that are already there with no new ones. Sorry Jr fans, I wanted him in the Chase as well - damn engine tampering/sabatoge at the DEI/RCR engine shop on behalf of Teresa, and the rest of the executives at DEI.

I think Montoya and Villeneuve can only help attract more minorities to the sport. Don't forget Almirola will also race at the Cup level more in 2008.

The biggest affect on the Cup race is it so close to the chase no one wants to screw up..same as last year..
In regards to Villenueve I didn't think being a Prima Donna qualified you for the diversity program but I could be wrong..
nope to apeals but they did have time to correct it all they neede was take two more caution laps and look at the tape that ESPN had..
Possibly Harvick keeps acting like a wounded duck at times and is inconsistent he might be vulnerable but it's a long shot

The #8 will be fine, it will just no longer be the Bud #8...

Sorry we missed you Bob and sorry your Sunday got drenched. We were indeed gone by 10 pm Friday and the Saturday tractor pull was a new experience for me. I used both Bob and Robert in our blogger's comment segment on Tuesday's show. I hope the plugs help some. I know that your comments helped us. You can catch the segment on racetalkradio.com Thursday. It should air around 8:30 pm edt. Thanks to all of you for the input here.
