I'm not bragging, but there aren't too many things in this life that I would admit to doing really poorly. Except for NASCAR fantasy games. I just plain suck.
It's becoming embarrassing, too.
We have this very simple - but kind of elegantly simple - game that we run thorough OnPitRow.com, called the Chain Game. All you have to do is pick one driver, each week, and you get their points. Some races are worth multiple points. You can only pick a driver once. Simple.
I get asked all the time at work - they think I know what I'm talking about because I do this radio gig and they know I write about this stuff too - who do I think will win?
Well, apparently, they are just humoring me. My boss is in 15th place after four races of the Chase to the Cup Game and another fellow worker is in 17th.
I am, currently 98th. Stay tuned.
My friend Robert, the Canadian Curmudgeon threw down a challenge at the beginning of this game.
"As an added bonus I will do anything to beat Charlie in the chain game...including running him so hard into turn 3 he ends up two counties over...."
Robert is in third place after four contests, only 11 points out of Jeff Gordon country. The wall hurts!
Recently, I even started writing some articles for Fantasy Insider Online. It's a fantastic site and I am proud to be part of it. They haven't asked me to be part of their expert panel, though. Good call.
I have to get better at this. Every time I turn around I'm getting an invitation on the Sporting News site or the OnPitRow Crew Site to join somebody's fantasy this-or-that game.
I think they all know that I suck at this.

You know Charlie, I had every intention of taking part in this game of yours, but I just plain forgot about it.
With that being said, I understand your pain. I too, am deemed somewhat of a person of knowledge when it comes to NASCAR, but the last few years I've been entered in this local NASCAR pool I've sucked.
I think the problem with us is that since 'we apparently know a lot' we think too much about it and include too many variables etc. into our choices.
I mean when I pick my drivers for the pool I research the teams they drive for, who their crew and car chiefs are, what their averages are at various types of tracks and compare those to others in the groupings and so on. Last year's winner of the pool picked their drivers based on the fact if they liked the drivers paint schemes or not and I finished 17th and out of the money - go figure.

Count yourself as very lucky Charlie, all I get invited to are parades were it's mandatory to wear foil hats.

I've given up on fantasy games, and have become reluctant to make solid picks on my blog. It is a self esteem thing.
Somehow, even when I pick the winner of a race in any fantasy game I've tried, I seem to lose points. I still haven't figured out how that happens, exept that maybe it's just my fate.
Charlie, thanks for joining the NASCAR Bloggers group at BC. I think we can have some real fun with that.

Bob, I think I may try the paint scheme plan next. I got nothing to lose - I do like Jimmy Johnson's silver Lowes-Kobalt car this week. That probably kills Johnson.
Marc, you look good in a foil hat.
Rev, I can't give up. Too many people look to me for comic relief. I'm looking forward to the bloggers group. Should be fun.

I think Charlie's problem is that he is looking into marc's foil hat for the divine intervention to guide him toward his pick.
I prefer to ask questions about potential winners to my "Magic 8 Ball". It seems to work as well as marc's foil hat.

Ah, the Magic 8 ball! Talk about divine intervention ... I'm off to my nearest Mattel store now to get one!
